The train journey took long, longer than usual because someone decided to commit suicide in throwing himself in front of the train. a crowd gathered to take a look. the police was still working. sue was asking herself why they need so much time. she was annoyed. she didn't like things, that didn't go her way. She checked her watch every minute, she grew nervous. she didn't have the time to think about the sense or non -sense of this suicide. she had her own problems that needed to be solved. 'why had david brought up that topic again?'
She had told him that she didn't even want to THINK about it. But he could never accept it. He was kind of a stubborn man, especially when things didn't go the way he wanted them to go. He had told her that it was time to, at least, move in together, but why couldn't he accept that it was too early because... Well, why?
There were probably a hundred reasons. But why could she remember none of them whenever she tried to convince him? Maybe it was his smile, she thought. That smile made her unable to think straight.
Or, maybe his eyes... she thought and smiled to herself. But suddenly she realized that she was smiling, and, remembering their fight, stopped at once. He just couldn't accept that it was too early, that she had to find herself first, before living with someone else.
david was moving to fast, for her opinion. they need to spent more time together before linving in one household. "if it were just the moving in", she sighed. but she knew that this was just an excuse for what he really wanted.
She knew that she had severe problems getting closer to people. And this also was one of the reasons for their fights. This was something David had always reproached to her. They just couldn't agree in this point.
but why was he forcing her now? he said he could understand. but why didn't he now? she was angry and confused. he could be so sweet and understanding but today he behaved like a real a******.
And now she was doing it again. Escaping! Like always. She didn't even know where the train was going. She just wanted to be gone. To start anew somewhere else. Where no person existed that wanted her to be submissive and behave by the rule. Who had established these rules? she thought. Exactly in this moment, the train gave a squealing noise and, abruptly, the train started to move again. She felt relieved.
Despite the fact that she felt like she was doing the right thing, she couldn't help but hear her mother's voice in her head: "You won't always be able to run away from your problems. Some day you'll have to face them, princess."
she knew that her mother was right. but she felt right too. she couldn't face him or their problems at the moment. running away was the best thing to do. and "some day" as her mother would say, is not about to come today...
She was a bit excited about what was still to come. So she decided to get off the train after two more stops. "The third stop will lead me into a new future, where I do not need to run away, where I can be me!" She started counting the stops: "One!" "Two!" Suddenly the door opened and an old woman asked whether she would mind having some company. "No, of course not, step in!" She told the woman and help her fix her things.
"did I disturb you? you looked like you wanted to go?" asked the old woman, when she sat herself down. "no no, everything is alright. i was just...." she replied and broke up the sentence.
"my name is cordelia liby. i am going to visit my grandchildren. do you want to see some pictures?" " i am jane. and i am going to visit no one."
Jane noticed the irrtitated look on Cordelia's face and decided to cheer her up a bit. "So, your grandchildren, er?" "Yes, here." Cordelia said and started to show Jane a bunch of photos. "This is Simon, the eldest. He's 12 and constantly looking for trouble. And that are the twins, Hope and Felicity. They're 6." Cordelia paused and looked up into Jane's face who looked troubled. All this joy in the children's faces...
...made her realize what she was about to lose and to give up. "everything alright miss?" "yeah sure. it is just that i am running away and i don't know if i will ever have such a life." somehow jane trusted that old woman. "you are not a criminal?" the old lady asked smiling jane had to smile too. "no i am not. really. i am just running away from my boyfriend, from my life. and i don't know what to do." cordelia seemed to think for a while, then she said:...
"You know, my dear, life is too short to be on the run from all these wonderful things. Why don't you at least try to get whatever luck you can have in life?"
