Okay, Stefanie and Melanie, this is partly your fault. After our discussion after the lecture today, I wrote this...and it's only in poem form since I thought that would be nicely sarcastic....
Someone wrote a poem once just a simple thing And everybody thinks he means a lot he didn't think. One says it's clearly about sex One states it handles fame One sees it as a harsh critique of religion and politics One means it's a biography.
Still others do not care for meaning, they can only see a lot of used devices the metaphors or imagery and these use many fancyy names to tell us what they see
Yet I can't help but think when I hear all interpretations - Did any poet ever write because he wanted to use all the stylistic means they find or mean both sex and death when writing about a flower?
Well, I am not as good a writer as the ones they interpret but if any feels inclined to do so I mean what I write don't make more of it. Go ahead, try and interpret this.
yes this is good, really. i told a friend how we partly enraged ourselves about all those interpretation stuff and she said "well yes, but if one stopped to do so our studies would not have a right to exist anymore." is it really only about interpretation we do? is it not also a knowledge about the writing culture of a country?
