Kev shook his head. Strange, he thought, normally Jimmy is as relaxed as one can be. But today? He seems to be hiding. He looks around as if he didn't trust anyone. But... wait... who's that? While Kev was thinking this, the door opened and a strange-looking guy with a grey trench-coat entered the room.
Kev would have given everything he owned -granted, that was not very much- to just disappear into thin air right there and then. He thought everyone in the pub must notice that he was trembling inwardly as the guy in the trenchcoat approached and went to sit right next to him.
Beer, the strange guy ordered without saying please. Kev hurried to fill a glass. When he placed the glass in front of the man, he again trembled with fear. The man in the trench-coat had a big scar in his face that occupied most of the left side of his face. He looked strange AND dangerous. When the man addressed Kev, he did not know what to answer. He couldn't help staring at his face.
"Do you have a lighter for my cigarette?" the man asked Jimmy in a voice so emotionless that for a split second, he was unsure whether he really did want to light his cigarette, or whether this was some criminal code to express that if Jimmy didn't hand the information by midnight, his house would be burned down?
Is he a member or a messenger of the organisation? Jimmy thought. He put his hand in his pocket to search for the lighter. When he handed it over to the strange man, the latter did not even say thank you. Jimmy started to talk: "Well, nice evening, isn't it?" The man stared at him as if to say DON'T JUST ASK ANYTHING! Jimmy trembled with fear. He did not know how to ask the man whether he came from the organisation.
pearls of sweat began to run down his forhead...he felt the heat rising...with every minute jimmy got more and more sure, that the man was from the organisation and hab been sent to control his actions.
Jimmy looked at the man again. Just in this moment, the man looked directly into Jimmy's eyes and pointed to the door with his eyes. "You want me to step out of the room?" Jimmy whispered. There it was again this Don't-Ask-Anything-expression in the man's face. Jimmy rose and went to the door slowly.
he felt the danger. he knew that something was going to happen...good or bad, he didn't know....but nevertheless he went out...a cold wind hit his face...he shivered...
Jimmy felt his feet move without intending to do so. He moved slowly, very slowly to the door. The wind outside was icy. Without any noise, the strange man had followed Jimmy. "Don't talk about the organisation in public, you stupid idiot!" he hissed. Jimmy gave voice to the first thought that came into his head: "I didn't know that you were part of it!"
"that's the point! the organisation wouldn't work, if everyone knew who is a part of it! savvy??" jimmy swallowed and nodded. he understood. as a kid he had always dreamed to be a part of something special, but noe he wasn't so sure. jimmy plucked up courage and addressed the stranger directly: "what do you want from me?"
"Isn't it obvious?" the stranger said in barely more than a whisper. "You are in a perfect position to give us exactly the information we need...which of course connects to..." But suddenly he stopped talking and looked over Jimmy's shoulder with an alarmed look on his face
jimmy turned around. kev was standing there and watched them. "ev'rything allright jim?" "yeah sure, we are just talking, he wanted me to show him the way to the station." "so no prob here?" "exactly" said jimmy, but "i don't know" was what he thought. the stranger hadn't said a thing. he was just staring at kev, with an attitude that was more than just angry.
Kev walked away, shaking his head in disbelief. Jimmy's thoughts returned to the stranger. "So, you, what's your name? And what do you want from me?" he asked him. The stranger just stared at him and nearly shouted when he said: "Don't ask me ANYTHING! The organisation wants you to be at the old station, tomorrow, 12 o'clock!" "At night?" Jimmy asked. "Of course!" The stranger screamed, turned away without a word and walked off. He muttered to himself: 'What do they think this guy can do? He is a jerk!'
jimmy didn't want to go back to the pub. he was fed up with people, especially those of the organisation. he didn't even know them but was pretty sure that he didn't want them to meet. never. he was thinking about the mission they would give him at the station tomorrow. or would they tell him, that he wasn't good enough? he walked home. his head was hurting because of the thinking. 'what am i supposed to do?'
He somehow had to make a plan on what to do...but he didn't believe there was a book entitled Secret Organisations-How to get along in the Spy World, in which he could look it up.
